Oceano Nox + Accelerando

FromGeorg Wasner

Duration55min.

LanguageGerman

As in his previous film Oceano Nox, Georg Wasner also works with and on borrowed material in Accelerando. While Oceano Nox explored the question of the "immediacy of seeing and being seen" as the true driving force of documentary filmmaking—a question gleaned from re-reading newsreel footage of the Titanic's sinking—and thus transcending any logic of film history, Wasner confronts the question of vividness in Accelerando with the political sphere. He does so through a text by the British pacifist and later Nobel Peace Prize laureate Norman Angell, who as early as 1909 attempted to dismantle the close conceptual link between military strength and economic prosperity as "Europe's optical illusion" (or "The Great Illusion").
