Obsession
Shy Bear has a crush on his best friend Nikki. As his growing feelings are not reciprocated, he entrusts his wish for love to a higher power via the magical One Wish Willow, which promptly ensures that the young woman becomes utterly smitten with him. Like the Philippou brothers (Talk To Me), Curry Barker has also honed his sense of timing and rhythm through internet sketches, which now allows him to craft a powerfully effective horror thriller from a generic premise, one that blends fantastical elements with psychological realism and, with unrelenting harshness, diabolical wit and relatable characters. One could also say: OBSESSION is a rom-com à la SLASH. (mk)
