Nymph()maniac (Teil 1)

After the furore surrounding the premiere of *Melancholia* in Cannes, it came as little surprise that Lars von Trier would shock the world once again – the question was rather: how? No one had expected a four-hour two-parter about sex. In NYMPH()MANIAC, Joe recounts stories from her private life, ranging from her deflowering by a mechanic to experiences on a train journey and sex in a hospital. The episodic structure of this expedition into lust, guilt and self-questioning – excessive on every level – allows for numerous stylistic breaks and liberties, reveals the tension between chaos and control, and once again challenges the audience to form their own judgement – not just about the Dane’s thinking.
