Norrtullsligan

Four single women live in a shared flat in Stockholm's Norrtullsgatan - happy as a clique, but frustrated by their jobs. Pegg tells the story from a first-person perspective about the daily struggle to earn a wage, the boss's assaults and other "snakes in paradise". The screenplay by Hjalmar Bergman is based on a story by Swedish suffragette Elin Wägner, whose characters are far more combative in the original. Nevertheless, the satirical, socio-critical film adaptation also offers a clear alternative to the Hollywood images of the "new woman": in contrast to the four Swedish women, she is rarely surrounded by such communal togetherness or would even enter into a comparable "capitalist war" (Antje Wischmann).
