Night of the Demon

“It’s in the trees! It’s coming!” American psychologist John Holden is in London to discuss Satanism and witchcraft with a colleague, who, however, falls victim to a mysterious accident shortly before John’s arrival. The rational scientist from the New World finds himself caught up in a tangled web of sectarianism, magical curses and even a bona fide demon … Under Val Lewton, Jacques Tourneur perfected his principle of suggestion. This time, producer Hal Chester does not let him off so easily and forces him to leave no questions unanswered by the end. Never mind, for when uncertainty slowly creeps in between rational thinking and occult logic, hesitation and scepticism too turn into pure fear.
