nicht verstummt

FromVerena Krausneker, Katharina Schalber

Year2013

Duration45min.

For the first time, deaf eyewitnesses of the Nazi era speak for themselves. The film tells their stories in sign language, offering a perspective on Nazi persecution that has long remained hidden. Between Austria and the United States, personal memories of exclusion and violence unfold—but also of solidarity within the Deaf community. Deaf eyewitnesses recount everyday discrimination, their exclusion from society, and the persecution of Deaf Jews.

Through personal testimonies conveyed in sign language, a space of understanding emerges that opens up access to a previously little-known history for both deaf and hearing viewers.

Followed by a discussion with Verena Krausneker, Lukas Huber, Clara Kutsch, and Paulina Spelbrink
