A NOBODY AGAINST PUTIN tells the true story of Pavel ‘Pasha’ Talankin, a teacher in a small Russian town who becomes a silent observer of a system undergoing radical change. Following the attack on Ukraine in 2022, his school becomes a hub of state propaganda: ‘patriotic’ rituals, militarisation and ideologically driven lessons permeate everyday school life. Pasha remains a teacher and confidant to his pupils – and begins filming in secret. Under the guise of his official role as a videographer, he documents hundreds of hours of footage: the restructuring of the education system and the farewells of young people being sent to war. From this perspective emerges an intimate, harrowing portrait of a country in a state of emergency, seen through the eyes of an individual who does not actually want to be a hero. When the situation becomes dangerous for him, the only option is to flee. The Danish-Czech-German co-production, which won the Oscar for Best Documentary in 2026, combines a personal chronicle with a political document and shows how resistance sometimes begins quietly – inside a classroom.
