Montevideo: Taste of a Dream

This blockbuster film tells the story of eleven passionate footballers and their journey from the streets of Belgrade’s suburbs to representing Yugoslavia at the 1930 World Cup in Uruguay. The plot centres on the relationship between two top players: Tirke, a natural talent from a poor background, and Moša, the superstar and playboy from a wealthy family. The two become friends whilst playing up front together for their club, Belgrade Sports Club BSC (now Partizan Belgrade). And in the newly formed national team, too, they initially pull together. But when Tirke and Moša find themselves at odds over two beautiful women, their unity is soon over. Rosa, a sensual innocent from a small town, adores Tirke, but her football-mad uncle does everything he can to bring her together with Moša. Valeria, on the other hand, a free-spirited bohemian, seduces Moša and takes pleasure in turning him against Tirke. MONTEVIDEO – TASTE OF A DREAM, a football fairy tale based on Vladimir Stanković’s best-selling novel of the same name about team spirit, friendship, perseverance and love – above all, love for the game – was one of the biggest box-office hits in Serbia.
