Monster

From Patty Jenkins

With Charlize Theron, Lee Tergesen, Annie Corley, Christina Ricci, Bruce Dern

Year 2003

Duration 111 min.

Language German

MONSTER tells the love story of two self-destructive outsiders: Aileen Wuornos, a drifter and sex worker who eventually begins murdering her clients, and Selby Wall, who is sent to Florida by her parents in an attempt to “cure” her homosexuality. To keep their relationship alive, Aileen continues to sell sex, but her anger grows increasingly uncontrollable, eventually erupting in a brutal killing spree that turns her into what the media brands America’s first female serial killer, a “monster”.

In her hauntingly moving directorial debut, Patty Jenkins looks beyond the headlines surrounding Aileen Wuornos, the so-called “man-hating” murderer who was executed in Florida in October 2002. Charlize Theron won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 2004 for her portrayal of Wuornos.
