Memory Spaces

FromRosa Andraschek, Walter Nitsche, Stefanie Zingl

LanguageGerman

This program focuses on history and gives it back its voice. Memory Spaces sheds light on the long-suppressed history of Jewish forced labor in the Roggendorf/Pulkau granite quarry. The images capture the (in)visibility of this place's past and are accompanied by the voice of eyewitness Mira Knei-Paz, whose sister Magda was forced to work there. Walter Nitsche was 20 years old and still a student when he filmed Vienna in 1938, a city marked by Nazi propaganda and violence. Historian Michaela Scharf and archivist Stefanie Zingl subject the amateur film footage to a detailed analysis.
