Meine Tochter lebt in Wien
Because Gretl, the daughter of village shopkeeper Klaghofer, refused to marry the Gruberbauer chosen by her father, she “fled” her parents’ home for Vienna and secretly married her sweetheart, Karl Ewald. The young couple both work as domestic servants at the villa of bath-salt manufacturer Felix Fritsch and are expecting their first child.
Klaghofer knows nothing of these circumstances, as he has always burned his daughter’s letters without reading them. One day, however, he receives a postcard showing Gretl standing in front of “her” villa beside “her” car. This prompts the shopkeeper to travel to the big city to find his daughter and belatedly give his paternal blessing to the marriage.
