Summer sun, the beach, and parties: 25 years after coming out late in life, 76-year-old Vicente is enjoying his life as an openly gay man in Gran Canaria. But a sudden stroke changes everything: His daughter brings him back to San Sebastián, he ends up in a nursing home, and once again has to start a new life. To avoid trouble, he hides his sexuality once more and becomes the sad old man he never wanted to be—until his new roommate makes it clear to him that he mustn’t just accept this fate.

Is a fresh start possible at age 76 when you can’t imagine a better life than the one you’ve had? With their melancholic yet heartwarming comedy-drama "MASPALOMAS", Basque directors Jose Mari Goenaga and Altor Arregi of the Moriarti filmmaking collective deliver a compelling plea not to lose hope, even in moments of greatest despair. The heart and soul of this deeply human film is José Ramón Soroiz in the role of Vicente, for which he was awarded Best Actor at the San Sebastián Film Festival and at the Goyas.
