Truvy (Dolly Parton) runs her small-town beauty salon like an Italian mamma runs her extended family. Loud, sometimes vulgar, but always in command. No wonder the ladies of local society flock to her: the rich and eccentric widow Ouiser (Shirley MacLaine), Anelle (Sally Field), who is constantly worried about her sick daughter, or Clairee (Olympia Dukakis), the town’s biggest gossip. But facials, manicures and problem skin play only a minor role at ‘Truvy’s’. In truth, male dominance is gleefully turned on its head here – with the help of Julia Roberts and Daryl Hannah, too.
