Lügen über meine Mutter

The film tells the story of the love between a mother and her child. Set in the West German countryside of the 1980s, it centres on a family dominated by one subject: the weight of the mother, Cornelia. Her husband Werner is obsessed with the idea that her excess weight is responsible for everything he has failed to achieve: a promotion, social advancement, and recognition within the village community. Cornelia is subjected to his relentless pressure, while their daughter Ela finds herself caught in the middle.

But what is the truth, and who is really lying to whom?
