Los Golfos
A group of young men in an impoverished suburb of Madrid keep their heads above water by running small scams and dreaming of a better life. Juan in particular, a talented bullfighter, is hoping for social advancement. They plan a robbery to raise the necessary capital ... After graduating from the state film school, Carlos Saura sought out his own style. Neorealism, direct cinema and, of course, Luis Buñuel are influences that he combines in his feature film debut to create something entirely his own. He shoots with non-professional actors in original locations and is very close to his characters. LOS GOLFOS celebrated its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, while it was withheld in Spain and released in a censored version in cinemas. We present the original, digitally restored long version.
