Vienna 1777: The child prodigy Resi tries to hold her own at the piano before the eyes of the nobility. The looks are pitying, embarrassed, mocking, her blindness turns the young woman into a freak. The unconventional methods of the doctor Mesmer, who is the first to free her from her corset and wig, promise to cure her of this "condition" ... The story of the once prominent pianist, music teacher and school founder Maria Theresia Paradis unfolds as a multi-layered, perspective historical drama - as a painful process of individual and epochal "enlightenment", which also means a loss of security and control (Resi loses her musicality as her eyesight increases), but which remains an open one despite all progress. Here, as today, recognition and identity are firmly linked to performance and visibility: those who are not seen do not exist.
