Les cinq Gentlemen maudits (Die fünf verfluchten Gentlemen)
Duvivier shot this crime thriller in a French and a German version, mostly at original locations in North Africa, with partly different actors: five rich young men get to know each other while traveling in Morocco. During a pilgrimage to Moulay Idriss, they meet a veiled woman with beautiful eyes accompanied by a blind beggar. One of the men tries to tear the veil from the woman's face. The beggar then pronounces a curse: "Before the full moon, you will all die, you first, you second, you third, you fourth and you last!" And in the evening, the first man falls off a cliff, the second crashes his plane soon after and the third is found stabbed to death in a ruined temple. Le Guérentec (René Lefevre), the last of the five cursed gentlemen, soon does everything he can to keep number four (Robert Le Vigan) alive. (Frederik Lang)
