Le Dinosaure et le bébé + Conversation with Fritz Lang

Language English,
French

Following the end of his directing career—a point that roughly coincides with his "rediscovery" by a generation of young filmmakers—Fritz Lang offers insights into his body of work and answers the question: "How did you do it?" To conclude our retrospective, we present two particularly compelling examples: In "Le Dinosaure et le bébé", Lang is questioned by the "baby" of the group, Jean-Luc Godard—in whose film *Le Mépris* (Contempt) Lang had appeared as a director. In this nuanced conversation, Lang discusses his general creative approaches. In William Friedkin’s film, by contrast, the focus is primarily on his early career—a discussion that occasionally reveals points of friction, such as the debate surrounding the psychological underpinnings of "M". These are instructive lessons in cinema, delivered with the air of a storyteller recounting a fairy tale. (Florian Widegger)
