Laufsteg & Leinwand – Fashion meets Film PARIS IS BURNING
“Catwalk & Screen” is a unique event that brings together film and fashion – two art forms that are powerful in their own right. When combined, however, they create something truly special: “Catwalk & Screen” is a tribute to this symbiosis.
Until the 1980s, fashion shows were a regular feature of the pre-show programme at the Gartenbaukino. With “Catwalk & Screen”, we are reviving this tradition – reinterpreted for the present day.
To kick off the evening, young Viennese designers will present their collections as part of a dynamic fashion show.
We then screen PARIS IS BURNING (1990), an impressive documentary about the legendary ballroom culture in 1980s New York, about voguing, chosen families and the struggle for visibility. Between glamour and marginalisation, queer people recount their lived realities, dreams and the quest for recognition.
