Kuessipan

Two inseparable friends grow up in an Innu community in Quebec, Canada. Young Mikuan lives with a loving family, whilst her friend Shaniss struggles with a difficult childhood. As children, the friends promise each other that they will always stay together, no matter what happens. But at the age of 17, Mikuan falls in love with a white man and begins to dream of leaving the Innu reserve. The film adaptation of Naomi Fontaine’s novel of the same name tells the story of coming of age between tradition and modernity.
