Colostrum, the first milk produced after birth, provides newborn calves with vital antibodies. The film of the same name follows mountain farmer Pascal and his assistant Solène through a busy summer on a Swiss alpine farm. Calves are born, cows are milked, hay is harvested and fences are put up. Two worlds meet: a down-to-earth farmer and an eco-feminist city dweller, who gradually find common ground. The camera follows the life cycle of the animals in a film that is both unhurried and visually stunning. An unconventional portrait of alpine farming and our relationship with livestock and nature.
The pace is equally contemplative in Puria Ravahi’s short film WHEN THE MOUNTAIN SPEAKS. Here, the mountains find their voices and address Martina, an alpine dairymaid. In poetic words, they ask questions about the evolution of humankind.
