“Have you ever mourned someone who hasn’t died yet?” Over a period of five years, Pepa Lubojacki filmed her brother and their relationship. David, like two of their cousins, is a severe alcoholic and homeless. The artist asks herself how this life can be told – and she succeeds through an extraordinary combination of handheld camerawork, text, a talking pigeon and old photos of the protagonists, who speak via AI animation. Her film is “brutally honest”, as harsh as it is tender. Despite the illness, the focus is always on the person.
