Johnny Mnemonic

In 2021, the world is dominated by high-tech corporations, anarchist hackers are wreaking havoc on the global data network and trading in information, the most valuable commodity of all. Half of the world's population suffers from ‘Nerve Attenuation Syndrome’ (NAS), for which there is currently no cure. Johnny (Keanu Reeves) is a mnemonic courier who smuggles stolen data using a memory card implanted in his brain. A powerful Pharmacom corporation commissions him to transport 320 gigabytes of important information from Beijing to Newark, which is far beyond his capacity. Although an overload of his brain could mean his death, he accepts the assignment. Plagued by flashbacks of his childhood, which he has sacrificed in favour of a larger data storage device, Johnny only has 24 hours left to get the information out of his head. But this proves to be more difficult than expected, because suddenly not only the owners of the data are after him, but also an underground organisation that suspects a cure for NAS in the encrypted information...
