At the exhibition VERNICHTUNGSKRIEG, which depicts the crimes of the Wehrmacht on the Eastern Front, Ruth Beckermann and cinematographer Peter Roehsler filmed testimonies of former soldiers. The soldiers recount crimes such as the shooting of Russian prisoners of war, the murder of Jews, and the assault of women. Their accounts reveal a mixture of helplessness, powerlessness, shame, opportunism, and unbroken fanaticism and demonstrate how perception can be selective, even in the most brutal of environments.
