Jean Gentil
Jean Remy Genty is actually an accountant and language teacher, but he is currently unable to find work in Santo Domingo. He migrated from Haiti to the Dominican Republic in search of work – before the catastrophic earthquake of 2010. In this contemplative and moving film by the directing duo Guzmán and Cárdenas, the lead actor plays a fictionalised version of his own life story. As Jean Gentil, he leaves the city for the jungle in frustration. Will his gentle, devout nature – which so often stands in his way – be able to flourish here?
