Iris och löjtnantshjärta (Iris)

During a family dinner, Robert (Alf Kjellin) meets Iris (Mai Zetterling), who works as a domestic servant for his aunt. After going to the cinema together, their love story begins, but Robert's wealthy relatives, and especially his strict father, pull out all the stops to prevent this liaison by any means necessary. A working-class lover is acceptable, but a fiancée is never acceptable. ‘Without you, I will never be a complete human being,’ Robert later confesses to Iris when their stormy affair has turned into true love. Mai Zetterling and Alf Kjellin's portrayal of the tragic lovers Iris and Robert as lively, vulnerable personalities not only earned them rave reviews from Swedish critics, but Zetterling's dramatic skills were also rewarded with an award in Venice.
