Tbilisi, 2024: Tens of thousands take to the streets to protest against the so-called ‘Foreign Agents’ Act. Right in the thick of it are Tina, Luka and director Tiku Kobiashvili – young people who are not only fighting for their political future but also seeking to discover who they want to be. As drama students, they experience a society in upheaval and develop their very own form of resistance: friendship, solidarity, and uncompromising support for one another. Kobiashvili does not film from the outside but as part of this close-knit group. Her camera becomes a ‘strange beast’ that is always present during boisterous games, conversations, and moments of fear. The result is an intimate, poetic portrait of a generation that gets politically involved without needing leaders. INNER BLOOMING SPRINGS is a film about courage, solidarity, and the power of young people to shape their future. To mark the International Day of Peace on 21 September, we are screening the film as part of a solidarity event with Amnesty International and are turning our attention to those who face repression for standing up for their democratic rights.
