Ida Who Sang So Badly Even the Dead Rose Up and Joined Her in Song
From the perspective of ten-year-old Ida, a childhood unfolds in which imagination becomes a refuge. In a rural setting of the 1970s – in what was then socialist Yugoslavia – everything initially appears to be in order, yet cracks begin to show beneath the surface: whether within the family, at school, or in the general way of dealing with loss. Whilst Ida believes she can save her ailing grandmother through her singing, the dream world and reality merge into a quiet coming-of-age story about loneliness, hope and the fragile power of a child’s imagination.
