HOW TO: Smocking Kitt

Fromdiv.

Year0

Duration65min.

Cutting, collaging, pulling and gathering, exposing, gluing or sewing – what sounds like a couture atelier is also cinema. The short film programme HOW TO: Smocking Kitt operates at the intersection of textiles and moving images, exploring how fabrics, clothing and textures come to life on screen. From anthropological, cultural studies and artistic perspectives, textiles are experienced as aesthetic surfaces, symbolic codes and cultural repositories. The focus is on materials and structures, textile connections to the body, identity and ritual, but also on waste, traces and inscribed stories.

The programme was curated by students from the textile.art.design programme at the University of Art and Design Linz – in cooperation with sixpackfilm.
