How to Marry a Millionaire
Three models, a luxurious flat and far too little money. For Pola, Schatze and Loco, one thing is clear: they need a man – and preferably a wealthy one. Together they hatch a plan, which, however, threatens to go awry when all the marriage-minded candidates turn out to be penniless … As in GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES, the focus here is on women who see through the rules of a male-dominated society. As the film progresses, however, the comedy (one of the first in the screen-filling CinemaScope format) turns out to be a biting satire that knows exactly which sore spots to touch: financial dependence, post-war materialism and outdated gender roles.
