A program centering on images of home that are both foreign and defamiliarized: Accompanied by distorted Alpine sounds, the camera in "Höhenrausch" scans hundreds of postcards until places like Dürnstein and Heiligenblut merge into one, just as alpine meadows blend with ski slopes. In "Knittelfeld – Stadt ohne Geschichte", Gerhard Friedl intertwines a family’s history of violence with views of the small Styrian town—a narrative of manslaughter, theft, and imprisonment. Finally, Valeska Grisebach’s "Berlino" is a raw document about Italian workers in the new capital: money is scarce, and home feels far away.
