Paris Is Burning takes the viewer into New York’s queer scene over 23 years ago—to the late eighties in Harlem's creative jungle. Right to the heart of the famous drag balls, which even inspired Madonna for her songs. Jennie Livingston’s film should, of course, not be judged by today’s standards. It’s not about ratings or achieving overproduced perfection in the portrayal of someone beyond gender boundaries; it’s about the feeling of having something in common, yet still competing with each other.

Afterwards, there will be an expert discussion with Rumi von Baires (DJ & Social Scientist) and Nikki Ullrich (Speaker for the Green Party’s LGBTQIA+ platform, "Andersrum Wien"), moderated by Yvonne Laussermayer, known from the podcast "A Fat Queer Feminist."
