On 2 February, 500 Soviet concentration camp prisoners break out of the Mauthausen concentration camp and seek refuge with the civilian population. The camp commandant calls on the population to ‘hunt down the escapees like rabbits’ and to liquidate the prisoners on the spot. A farming family hides two of the escaped concentration camp prisoners - at the risk of their lives - until the end of the war.
