Habibi Hussein
Alex Bakri was the cinematographer on the set of the documentary CINEMA JENIN (2008) by German director Marcus Vetter. At the time, however, he also shot his own film – and that is what we are about to see: The reconstruction of the cinema in Jenin in the West Bank, initiated by Vetter, is told from the perspective of the projectionist Hussein, who, despite his 40 years of experience, is increasingly being pushed out of the project. HABIBI HUSSEIN is an eye-opening and uncomfortable counter-narrative that reflects on power imbalances and raises questions about the practices of Western aid projects.
