Premiere: LAUREL & HARDY POETRY SLAM
Laurel & Hardy as a Viennese & a German
The greatest comedy duo of all time is undisputed: Stan Laurel & Oliver Hardy. They met about 100 years ago and made over 100 films together.
Who can better provide witty voice-overs for Laurel & Hardy’s brilliant silent films: the Viennese or the German? The old master or the youngster? The original or the newcomer?
The only two German-speaking cinema narrators will face off for you: Ralph “Turnschuh” Turnheim & Felix “Fail-X” Münk.
Ralph Turnheim, until now the sole cinema narrator with a Viennese wit and winner of the German Silent Film Award, faces his challenger: Felix “Fail-X” Münk, the rebellious Hessian from Darmstadt. He drew inspiration from Ralph’s screen poetry.
Ralph and Felix will compete against each other in the art of screen poetry for these films:
Round 1: Bacon Grabbers (1929)
Stan & Ollie have to repossess a radio. The debtor and their own clumsiness don’t make it easy for them.
Round 2: That’s My Wife (1929)
Stan has to dress up as Ollie’s wife to charm his wealthy uncle.
Round 3: Finishing Touch (1928)
As handymen, Stan & Ollie are tasked with finishing a house. Things don’t quite go as planned...
Round 4: Their First Mistake (1932)
Two men and a baby. Ralph & Felix provide live dubbing for this early sound film.
Mayhem on and off the screen is guaranteed. Sharp wit and wooden hammers
Round 4: Their First Mistake (1932)
Two men and a baby. Ralph & Felix provide live dubbing for this early sound film.
Mayhem on and off the screen is guaranteed. A sharp blade and a wooden mallet are at the ready. Fists are clenched, quills are sharpened, hooves are pawing, films are rattling, rhymes are tumbling—in two different dialects.
Everyone and anyone will end up on the floor: Ralph and Felix from exhaustion, the audience from laughter. Above it all stand only Laurel & Hardy.
Two on the screen and two in front of the screen, giving each other no quarter. What more could you want? Gerhard Gruber, of course! The silent film pianist is back and passionately yet completely impartially accompanies the battles of Stan & Ollie and Ralph & Felix with his live improvisation.
Real film projection (16 mm). Duration: approx. 2 hours with intermission and audience discussion
