German director Günter Schlesinger made a handful of films between 1965 and 1969 before fading into obscurity. Easy women and tough guys were his stock characters; the milieu he inhabited was a playground redolent of crime and sin, longing and freedom. His works are brimming with ambition—sometimes thwarted by the realities of filmmaking—and feature characters who pull off incredible feats while delivering even more incredible lines. Take, for instance, the blond heartthrob who emerges from the sea like Venus at the start of *Ich spüre deine Haut* and declares with absolute conviction: "You don't find another one like me very often." A statement that undoubtedly applies to Schlesinger’s films as well.
