Girls don’t cry
What does it mean to be a girl in today’s restrictive world?
The documentary GIRLS DON’T CRY explores the longing of six girls from six countries for a self-determined life of freedom, their desire to fall in love without being patronized, without having control over their own bodies, and with equal rights.
We see Nancy, Sheelan, Selenna, Nina, Paige, and Sinai, aged 14–16, making confident decisions in difficult situations, bravely fighting against brutal traditions like female genital mutilation, against social constraints and pressure, and against beauty standards and prejudice.
The countries where the protagonists live are not only miles apart; their living conditions, educational opportunities, and rights as women in their societies also differ significantly.
