Geheimnisvolle Tiefe

The first film from the Pabst-Kiba production company takes us into a bizarre ice cave setting, whose mysterious and dangerous depths also serve as a symbol for the exploration of the human soul - a central theme for Pabst. At the centre is a woman caught between two men: an idealist who believes in his own powers and delves deep into the dark, prehistoric past, and a materialist who relies solely on the power of money. The most expensive Austrian production to date - with a popular cast and spectacular locations - flopped at its premiere at the Venice Film Festival and was later considered lost for a long time. An ideal complement to PANDORAS VERMÄCHTNIS, especially because of Trude Pabst's proven involvement. (Florian Widegger)
