Gangster Girls

GANGSTER GIRLS documents everyday life in Austria's only women's prison in Schwarzau, Lower Austria. The women serving their sentences here may have been convicted for different reasons – robbery, fraud or drug trafficking – but in prison they all share similar desires and needs. Opportunities for entertainment are rare, so it is a welcome change when young inmates from the Gerasdorf prison are brought to the women's prison once a week for joint theatre rehearsals. Tina Leisch is less concerned with the reasons that led to the convictions and imprisonment, and whether it was bad luck or guilt, fate or stupidity that put the women behind bars, but rather with how they deal with the consequences on a daily basis.
