Fritz Langs deutsche Filme
This illuminating three-part series dates back to an era when formats dedicated to film appreciation held a firm place on television, reflecting the growing interest in Lang that emerged in the 1960s. Across three chapters—"The Aesthete and Reality," "The Idealist and Civilization," and "The Citizen and Political Power"—film historian Klaus Kreimeier subjects Lang’s early body of work to a rigorous ideological critique. In doing so, he lays bare bourgeois values, power structures, and patterns of thought that extend into the era of fascism, all while probing a fundamental question: what do Lang’s films reveal about the times in which they were made?
