Freies Kino: Art Visuals & Poetry Film Festival 2023
Festival opening International Audience Award on 14 November at Stadtkino
From 14 to 17 November 2023, the Art Visuals & Poetry Film Festival will be celebrating its tenth anniversary with free admission at the Vienna Künstlerhaus. The Vienna Poetry Film Festival is unique in Austria and is the second largest festival of its kind in the world. Poetry films from five continents will be presented over a total of four days, offering insights into the diversity of poetry film worldwide.
The festival will open on 14 November in the Stadtkino im Künstlerhaus with the international Audience Award, in which the audience will determine the winning film by means of live voting. The main competition for the German-speaking region honours the best poetry film from the border triangle of Germany, Austria and Switzerland. New this year is the international Poetry Performance Film Award, curated by slam poet Katharina Wenty. The poetry film competition, which this year is based on the poem "la luna" by Viennese poet Manfred Chobot, is particularly special. Another highlight is the Austrian premiere of Olivier Zuchuatdar's award-winning documentary film "Like Stone Lions at the Entrance to the Night". The documentary film deals with a blind spot in European historical consciousness, the Greek Civil War, in which Greece's leading poets, including two Nobel Prize winners, were involved. The subsequent international panel discussion Lost & Found History deals with the culture of remembrance and the historical background. The festival programme also includes various readings, including with Monika Rinck and Manfred Chobot, as well as performances and film discussions.
