Frau im Mond

From Fritz Lang

With Klaus Pohl, Gerda Maurus, Willy Fritsch, Gustav von Wangenheim

Year 1929

Duration 170 min.

Gold on the Moon?! This discovery not only ignites scientific fervor but also stirs the unscrupulous interests of powerful corporate circles. Consequently, when a group of researchers and adventurers sets off on the first space voyage, a representative of big business is on board—as is a woman! Curiosity, rivalries, and greed drive the race depicted in this final great silent film of German cinema; for it, Lang enlisted technical assistance from rocket pioneers to achieve a level of plausibility previously unseen—so much so that reality later adopted the film's legendary countdown, the first in history. Yet "Frau im Mond" also speaks to the dreams of a modern society—and the interests seeking to co-opt them.
