Frances Ha

If Frances had her way, her life with Sophie could go on forever. With Sophie, she can fight wonderful mock boxing matches, dream about the future (Sophie as a bitchy publisher who brings out a "coffee table book" about the famous dancer Frances) and, above all, live together. Until one day reality comes knocking: Sophie moves to Tribeca with her boyfriend, and Frances can't afford the Brooklyn apartment on her own. Especially since she can't get ahead professionally. She's no big deal as a dancer, and instead of hiring her for a Christmas performance, the dance studio director only offers her an office job. And so Frances initially stumbles from one disaster to the next, from one lousy flophouse to the next, even lousier one. But Frances is just too optimistic, too attached to life, to let it get her down.
