Katja has had enough. She is about to graduate from school and is achieving all sorts of things, but her father hardly fulfils any of her wishes, even denying her a dress for the ball. So she turns up in a tailcoat and oversteps the (gender) boundaries of appropriate moral behaviour. What a scandal! Her father throws her out without further ado - and Katja finds refuge in a house inhabited by a diverse women's collective, which immediately sets her own emancipation in motion. Karin Swanström's early feminist comedy has depth and is particularly worth seeing today thanks to its progressive view, its portrayal of female solidarity and the fight against patriarchal ideas. Her film is rightly on the BFI list of "unjustly overlooked films by female directors".
