FIUME O MORTE!
FromIGOR BEZINOVIĆ
Year2025
Duration112min.
LanguageCroatian, Italian
Gabriele D'Annunzio: Italian poet, fascist and occupier of the city of Fiume (now Rijeka) for 16 months. In September 1919, D'Annunzio took the city with 300 men. Bezinović tells the absurd story of the occupation, which had serious consequences for the city and its inhabitants, with the help of the local population. He mixes interviews with re-enactments and photographs to create a factual yet punky cinematic journey that is deadly serious yet comically surreal. Although the story takes place over 100 years ago, it still seems frighteningly topical.
