At the age of 96, Faruk, father of director Aslı Özge, is confronted with an involuntary move. As part of subsidized modernization measures that are also driving Istanbul into a spiral of gentrification, the residential building is to be rebuilt—despite resistance from some residents. His daughter follows the process in order to make a film about this transformative phase in her father's life, which is half documentary, half fiction and enriched with meta-levels. How long will Faruk have to wait for the new apartment with a mini-balcony while he searches for a temporary solution? The family of director Çağla Gillis has already been putting up with the situation for four years. In a video call to Austria, they reminisce about the garden surrounding the old residential complex, a social space where people lived in community away from the concrete jungle. Archival footage recalls a gathering that becomes a moment of longing, while Gillis' body gently wraps itself around a concrete pillar in a building shell. (Bianca Jasmina Rauch)
