Mihrije actually wants to go far away, to Western Europe, where she imagines a life of freedom. Instead, she’s stuck among the prefab apartment buildings of her small hometown in Slovenia. Together with her best friends Jasna and Sina, she tries to prove herself to the men who call the shots here—even using violence if necessary. The chance to break free appears quite suddenly: Fantasy, a self-assured trans woman, enchants Mihrije with her unabashed femininity the moment their eyes meet on the dance floor. But even Fantasy isn’t as free as she first leads her friends to believe.
