Fantastic Flings

Inspired by the English term “fling” – a carefree romance or casual affair – SLASH proudly jumps into bed with the international animation film festival Tricky Women Tricky Realities for this year’s Fantastic Flings: a joint program that looks at relationships through the lens of genre and showcases short film favorites from both festivals – all in the spirit of: “We’ll show you ours if you show us yours!”

Drawing on the fantastic potential of animation to break open familiar narrative structures, this program embarks on a journey through bizarre and uncanny encounters that are at the same time (surprisingly) funny and tender – because even paradise and dystopia can sometimes enter into a liaison! Their entanglement raises questions: What happens to hunger and desire when the longed-for dream suddenly comes within reach?
