Evil Does Not Exist
Takumi and his daughter Hana live in the village of Mizubiki near Tokyo. They lead a modest life in harmony with nature and appreciate the seclusion. However, their peace is disturbed when a company from Tokyo unveils plans to build a glamping facility nearby. It soon becomes clear that the luxury campsite will have serious consequences for the ecological balance of the region and the lives of the villagers. To smooth things over, the company sends two representatives to Mizubiki. But instead of a solution, the conflict leads to a situation with far-reaching consequences - for everyone.
The new film by Ryûsuke Hamaguchis, who won the Oscar for Best International Film in 2022 for DRIVE MY CAR. EVIL DOES NOT EXIST was awarded the Grand Jury Prize and the FIRPRESCI Critics' Award at its world premiere in competition at the 2023 Venice International Film Festival.
