Tsitsi Dangarembga’s feature film debut tells the story of four siblings whose parents have both died of AIDS. Following a traditional funeral, the village community shuns the orphans—contrary to custom—due to the stigma associated with the disease. Left without a livelihood, the family inevitably falls apart. "Everyone's Child" is a powerful call to action on behalf of the millions of orphaned children in Africa. Through the tragic story of a Zimbabwean family devastated by AIDS, the film urges a return to the tradition in which an orphan becomes "everyone's child." Produced by the Zimbabwean Media for Development Trust (MFD), the film exemplifies a significant trend in African filmmaking: the production of feature films designed to engage directly with pressing social issues. The exceptional soundtrack features twelve original songs by Zimbabwe’s most popular musicians, including Chiwoniso Maraire, Thomas Mapfumo, Leonard Zhakata, and Andy "Tomato Sauce" Brown.
